newpan draws together all information from during the
panel (i.e., wINDRESP and wJOBHIST)
lemp and ljob are simple re-formattings of
BLIFEMST and CLIFEJOB respectively
xlemp and xljob are versions of lemp and
ljob extended using information from newpan (with
some reduction in detail to correspond with that gathered in
BLIFEMST and CLIFEJOB)
ljemp combines information from the extended life-time
histories (xlemp and xljob) to provide a life-time
history with both employment status and occupational information.
Before the panel period there are some problems arising
from data conflicts between BLIFEMST and CLIFEJOB
During the period of panel coverage there is no conflict
but the level of information is less than in newpan
ljemp gives priority to the employment status
history and maps occupational information from CLIFEJOB onto employed
spells - other approaches are also possible
Use newpan if you do not need full (non left-censored)
life histories - fullest level of detail, no conflict between
occupational and employment status info
Use xljob or xlemp if you need full life
histories but do not need both employment status and occupational
info at the same time
Use ljemp if you need full life histories and both
employment status and occupational info
