• Panel studies which interview the same random sample of people at regular intervals

• Cohort studies which interview a sample of people born in a particular period (repeated interviews, perhaps at irregular intervals)

• Retrospective studies where respondents recall their life histories

• Linked administrative records where different official databases are linked to create longitudinal records.

• Repeated cross-sectional surveys where the same instrument is used at regular intervals on the same sample (not micro-longitudinal)
